Horsham - Natimuk - Mt Arapiles
- (Goroke - Kaniva) - Nhill - Dimboola - Horsham
From Horsham travel to Mt Arapiles-Tooan State
Park, via Natimuk. At Mt Arapiles experience the dry rocky
terrain of world-class rock climbing and view the panoramic
plains of the Wimmera. Continue along the Goroke - Natimuk
Road, to the Jane Duff Memorial Park, which commemorates the
heroine of the "three lost children" story, from
the early days of settlement in the Wimmera. From here continue
to Harrow - Nhill Road intersection, where you can either
turn right and head through the centre of the Little Desert
National Park, stopping at the Stringybark Walk and then on
to Nhill, or you can continue straight ahead via Goroke to
the Little Desert National Park, home of the famous Mallee
Fowl. View a sea of Pink Heath and wild flowers in the spring,
plus the woody shrubland and various native animals. Continue
on to Kaniva, then down to Nhill and then along the Western
Hwy to the Pink Lake. This lake is known for it's colour and
purity of it's salt. From here into Dimboola and out to the
Horseshoe Bend to see where the Wimmera River meets the desert
and view the lovely giant river red gums, before continuing
back to Horsham.

Horsham - Dimboola
- Antwerp - Jeparit - Warracknabeal - Minyip - Rupanyup -
Murtoa - Horsham
Travel along the Western Highway to Dimboola,
then on to Antwerp on the Dimboola - Jeparit Road. Just before
Antwerp there will be a tun to your left, that goes to Ebenezer
Mission. Founded in 1858 by Moravian missionaries, Ebenezer
Mission was established to christianise the Aborigines. All
that remains today of this National Trust site, is the grave
yards, old church and cook house. From here travel to Jeparit,
the birthplace of Australia's legendary Prime Minister, Sir
Robert Menzies. Six kilometres north of Jeparit is Lake Hindmarsh,
Victoria's largest freshwater lake, then travel on to Warracknabeal,
the centre of the major grain growing area of the state. Continue
on to Minyip, the home of the former "Flying Doctors"
T.V mini-series, then on to Rupanyup. From Rupanyup head to
Murtoa. As you are coming into Murtoa, you will notice a large
grain storage shed on your left. It is known as the 'stick
shed', which was one of the largest grain storage sheds in
the southern hemisphere. It was built in 1941, during the
World War 1. Continue on to Lake Marma to witness the magnificent
sunset before heading back to Horsham.

Rocklands Reservoir - Toolondo Reservoir - Horsham
Take the Wimmera Highway west to Natimuk, with
its many historical buildings, near Mt Arapiles. At Mt Arapiles
you can watch world-class rock climbers, walk through wildflowers
or admire the view from the lookouts. Continue along the Wimmera
Highway to Edenhope and visit Lake Wallace, one of Victoria's
renowned fly-fishing waters or follow Major Mitchell's trail
to Harrow. Harrow is a picturesque little town on the banks
of the Glenelg River in the heart of redgum country. But keep
a look out above. In times of drought these magnificent gums
can suddenly drop one of their branches to conserve water!
Then on to Balmoral and the huge Rocklands Reservoir and its
spillway. Take the road back to Horsham, stopping to watch
a beautiful sunset over Toolondo Reservoir, one of the premier
trout waters in Victoria.

Drive south along the Western Highway and turn
right at the entrance to the Grampians National Park. From
here drive to Wartook. You may wish to detour and have a look
at the Aboriginal rock art sites
at Hollow Mountain (on the Mt Zero Road) or at Mt Stapylton.
Then on to Zumsteins, which has a picnic ground, historical
walk and plenty of native animals. From here travel, to MacKenzie
Falls, then to Reids Lookout and on to Boroka Lookout, before
going into Halls Gap. From Halls Gap travel down the Halls
Gap - Dunkeld Tourist Road, to Lake Bellfield, which has fishing
and picnic facilities. Continue on to Mount William the largest
mountain range in the Grampians. From here continue along
the Halls Gap-Dunkeld Tourist Road, to the Victoria Valley
Road. Turn off to the right. Here you will travel through
the lovely fertile farming land of the Wannon River, with
all it's historical significance. From Cavendish continue
along the Henty Highway towards Horsham. You may wish to turn
off just before Glenisla to view the two Aboriginal rock art
sites, off the Billywing Road. Stop in Cherry Pool. It lies
on the Glenelg River and has a small walking trail and picnic
facilities, then return to Horsham.
